Getting the Big News...

This week we had a big meeting with the grams and gramps.  The big guys were invited too.  They sat behind us and just listened.  We were all nervous as there was no agenda or anything.  First grams wanted to tell us that we were all good puppies (we knew that).  She then went on to tell us that the week coming would for three of us be our last days here at Welgem.  Holy cow - we were shocked!  We knew we would be going to our new homes but had no idea when.  There was some murmuring amongst us as to why only three, and who they were and why the last guy was left out!  Then gramps made the announcement as to who would be going and when.  You could hear a pin drop.  The air was filled with tension.  Then Toby sneezed and nearly scared the wits out of all of us!  Gramps asked Owsley and Max to come over to him.  He told us, you two will be going on a long car ride to Skagway.  From their you will be taking a flight in a small plane to Juneau.  Both of you will have to share a crate as there is not a lot of room on the plane.  When you get to Juneau your new families will be there to greet you.  Now it is important you remember who to go to.  Don't go playing any tricks.  They will know if you try.  We will post their pictures and give you their smells when you leave.  That way you will be able to tell who is who.  Max you will be going on to Fairbanks in the evening in a big plane.  Sorry Max it is cold there; but don't fret, they have a warm home.  Both of you will be overseen by other Welgem adults.  Behave yourselves.  Next, Griffin was asked to come forward.  He looked over at Mom nervously.  Molly turned her head to gramps as if to say "it is alright".  Gramps told Grif (that is what we call him) that he will be going on a big jet flight to Victoria on Friday.  You will be met by a Policewoman.  What!  A policewoman, what did I do wrong?  Holy smokes I am going to jail, and I am just an innocent puppy.  Grams said no, no it is alright, she is your new human and she is very nice.  She has a young boy who can't wait to see you.  They also have a grams and gramps that live with them.  It will be just like here.  You will be living in beautiful Nanaimo.

Both Lucy’s' looked dejected.  We could hear them whispering, "sure the boys get to go, and we are stuck here.  It is not fair."  Grams called Lucy (#2) over.  The two girls looked again at one another.  Then Lucy said to her sister, "go on you might as well get it over with."  Lucy bravely stuck her chest out and went over to grams.  "Lucy," you are a lucky little girl.  You will be staying here with your sister and all of us until Monday.  Then you too will be going to Victoria on a big plane.  Josh will be waiting for you to take you home.  He is very excited.  You will like him.  He is a nice young man.  You will get to go on long walks and best of all there is no snow!”  Wow, Lucy thought out loud, that is great news.  If there is no snow what is there then.  Grams told her - 'grass'.  Lucy had no idea what grass is.  That is when Bubs (who is the oldest and wisest of the big guys) spoke up and told her it is like nothing you have seen before, you will love it.  You can roll in it, play, sniff, it is warm and well just about anything you can think of.  It beats snow.

When grams was finished all the big guys came over to see Lucy who was not called.  They all started to congratulate her and licking her.  Lucy was dumbfounded with all the attention.  That is when Mom told her should would be staying here with her big family.  Then we all had a party to celebrate the big news.

What a day we had.  We all went to bed that night with thoughts of planning for our big day to come.

So, until next week we hope you enjoy your visit with us...
